Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data Alma collects, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.

1. Our Privacy Philosophy

Alma is designed with privacy in mind. We follow these principles:

• Local-first: Your conversations and settings are stored on your device, not our servers
• Minimal collection: We only collect what's necessary to provide the service
• Transparency: We tell you exactly what we collect and why
• Your control: You can export or delete your data at any time

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Data Stored Locally (On Your Device)

The following data is stored only in your browser's localStorage and never sent to our servers:

• Conversations: Your chat history with Alma
• Settings: Your preferences (theme, companion name, personality, etc.)
• API Keys: Your third-party AI provider API keys

This data remains on your device unless you choose to sync it with an account.

2.2 Data Stored in Supabase (If You Create an Account)

If you create an account, we store:

2.3 Payment Data

If you subscribe to premium features, payment processing is handled by PayPal. We store:

• PayPal subscription ID (to verify your subscription status)
• Subscription status and renewal dates

We do NOT store your credit card numbers, bank details, or PayPal password. PayPal handles all payment processing according to their Privacy Policy.

3. Third-Party Services

Alma uses the following third-party services:

3.1 AI Providers

When you send a message, your input is sent to the AI provider you've selected:

• Groq — Privacy Policy
• DeepSeek — Privacy Policy
• OpenRouter — Privacy Policy
• Anthropic — Privacy Policy
• OpenAI — Privacy Policy

Each provider has their own data retention and privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.

3.2 Supabase (Authentication & Database)

We use Supabase for user authentication and data storage. See their Privacy Policy.

3.3 PayPal (Payments)

Subscription payments are processed by PayPal. See their Privacy Policy.

3.4 Google (OAuth)

If you sign in with Google, we receive your email and display name. See Google's Privacy Policy.

4. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

• Provide the Alma service and its features
• Authenticate your account
• Process subscription payments
• Sync your settings across devices (if you have an account)
• Respond to support requests

We do NOT:

• Sell your data to third parties
• Use your conversations for advertising
• Train AI models on your conversations
• Share your data except as described in this policy

5. Data Retention

• Local data: Stored until you clear it or your browser data
• Account data: Stored until you delete your account
• Payment records: Retained as required by law for accounting purposes

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: Export your conversation history using the Export feature in Settings
• Delete: Clear your local data using the "Forget" button in Settings
• Account deletion: Contact us to delete your account and associated data
• Data portability: Export your data in a readable format

7. Security

We protect your data through:

• HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
• Secure authentication through Supabase
• Row-level security policies in our database
• Regular security reviews

However, no system is 100% secure. Please keep your API keys and account credentials safe.

8. Children's Privacy

Alma is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. International Users

Our services are hosted in the United States. By using Alma, you consent to the transfer of your data to the US.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
